PARSC ANGLERS 2011 ACHIEVEMENTS RECOGNISED AT PRIZEGIVING DINNER ON 4TH Nov AT SKI BOAT CLUB
An excellent turnout of approximately 100 anglers and sponsors attended the sparkling Rock and Surf Prize giving dinner on Friday evening . The Chairman of the Rock and Surf Section Terry Stewart welcomed all , mentioning that the Rock and Surf Section of the PARSC had enjoyed a very successful year with a number of the club’s anglers earning provincial colours and representing their province at the various National Championships , furthermore the increase in membership over 2010 with specific reference to the increasing number of juniors also bodes well for the future of the club .
The section successfully held 15 sponsored competitions during 2011 at which a total of 503 edible fish were caught , consisting of 15 different species and weighing a total of 842.7 kg . What was particularly noteworthy was that 91.6% of all the fish caught were successfully released , demonstrating the club anglers’ commitment to sustainable angling .
The average weight of the fish caught was 1.67kg and it took an average of 5.07 angler hours per fish caught . What was of particular interest was the similarity in overall statistics of fish caught when comparing 2010 and 2011 especially with regards to the most prolific species , namely blacktail 106.3 kg (2010: 102.3kg) , Bronze Bream 206.1 kg (2010:236.2 kg) and Cob 202.2kg (2010 :195.4 kg) . The only real anomaly was perhaps the reduced number of bronze bream accompanied by the increased catch of zebra which jumped from 31 to 43 fish , perhaps as a result of the increased east wind and cold water experienced during 2011 .
Two new club records were established this year : Len Titmuss with a zebra of 2.7kg and Mark Pote with a banded Galjoen of 1.3kg .
With respect to species prizes , the following anglers were winners for 2011 :
Darian Keeton : Baardman 5.4kg , Blacktail 2.0kg ,Galjoen 3.4kg ,Spotted Grunter 3.4kg. Niel van der Linde : Cob 8.7 kg. Terry Stewart : Blue-eyed Jan Bruin 1.6kg . Wade Labuschagne : Bronze Bream 4.6 kg . Mark Warren : shad 0.95kg . Mark Pote : banded Galjoen 1.3 kg . Tienie Lindeque : Black Musselcracker 6.7 kg . Claude Pittaway : White Musselcracker 12.7 kg . Paul Knight : White Steenbras 11.2 kg ,Catface Rock Cod 1.2 kg .Len Titmuss : Zebra 2.7kg , Yellow Belly Rock Cod 1.6 kg . Leonard Bodill : Cape Stumpnose 1.2 kg . Greg Baxter : Stone Bream 1.2 kg . Mike Williams : Santer 1.2 kg .
The prize for the most unique fish of the year went to Mark Pote for his Banded Galjoen of 1.3 kg . Wade Labuschagne won the prize for the heaviest non-edible , a raggie of 110 kg . Claude Pittaway won the prize for the heaviest edible with his white musselcracker of 12.7 kg with Paul Knight winning the prize for the heaviest fish released with his 11.2 kg White Steenbras .
Terry Stewart won the prize for the most weight caught over the year in terms of competitions and other weigh cards submitted with 141.4 kg . Douglas Olivier won the prize for the most improved angler , Rob Bessenger won the hard luck trophy and Brian Wright won the trophy for the biggest blunder of the year .
With respect to the year long Round Robin Competition , this was won by Team 4 consisting of Neil van der Linde , Dave Kemp , Len Titmuss and Mike Williams with 1059 points . In a very close second place with 1035 points , were Team 3 consisting of Darian Keeton , Mark Pote , Simon Du Plessis and Brian Wright with Team 1 cosisting of Paul Knight , Terry Stewart and Don Murray in third with 988 points . Darian Keeton was the top individual in the Round Robin with 260 points.
Finally , the prizes for the individual Champions were awarded :
The Junior Championship was won by Wade Labuschagne with 16.2kg followed by Melissa Du Randt in second and Andrew Du Toit in third .
Karen Kemp was awarded the prize as Lady Champion with 8.6 kg .
Douglas Olivier won the Masters Championship with 30.1 kg with Len Titmuss in second and Tienie Lindeque in third .
The Overall Club Championship in addition to Sportsman of the year Trophy was won by Terry Stewart with 101.3kg . Niel van der Linde was runner up with 94kg , Darian Keeton 3rd with 84.4 kg , Mark Pote in 4th with 52kg and Niall Borland in 5th with 46.4kg .
