Deep Sea Section. April news letter
News from the deep.
I do trust you are all keeping well.
Fishing has been quiet lately other than our Easter Spar Family competition that we had over the Easter weekend. Prior to the competition there were some good signs of fish being around. Sunfish managed to catch a quota of cob, ranging from 6kg’s to 12kg’s. Dictator and Suddenlee challenged each other to a yellowtail catch and at the end of the weigh in Dictator took top spot with catching a mere 100 grams more than Suddenlee.
Monthly Round Robin.
The days are every 3rd Saturday of the month ending in November. If competition is called off (on the 3rd Saturday) the competition will then be fished on the 4th Saturday of the month. The weigh-in will be at 3pm during both summer and winter months. We hope this won’t bother the golfers too much and that will sacrifice one Saturday to go fishing.
The entrance fee of R50.00 per angler will be kept by the secretary and used for the end of year prize giving. Anglers will have a “bring and braai” after a round robin competition. All anglers who have entered the round robin and have paid their R50.00 per outing will not be charged for the end of year function.
Keep an eye on the notice board at the club to see who is lying where in the round robin.
Easter Competition.
This year Spar came on board as the major sponsor for the Easter competition along with Supreme Leisure, Tyre Mart, Sports n All and Shimano.
The format for this comp was change from the usual style of just a deep sea competition, we decided to combine it with rock and surf. Next year we hope to attract the river fishermen as well.
The competition started on the 26th March and prize giving was held on the Monday the 28th. We expected more boats to enter, but still had a good turnout. A number of fish were caught on the first day with fishing conditions not very favourable on the Sunday.
Biggest fish – Yellowtail, 14.4kg caught by William on the boat TinTin.
Then there were a number of other species caught over the two days. The overall top angler was Ken Tanner off the boat Dictator and his catch included some of the biggest species caught.
Cob 5.5kg’s. Miss Lucy 5,35Kg’s. Red Roman 1.5Kgs.
One particular catch worth mentioning was the Maasbanker (Horse mackerel) caught by Barry Tapson. The fish tipped the scale at 1.3Kg’s and is a new PARSC club record, beating the previous record of 0.8kg’s. The current SA record for this fish is 1.4Kg’s. Well done Barry and hope to see you beat the SA record next time out.
Finances.
The section made a small profit with the last comp and we are looking at fixing and upgrading the fish cleaning area and replacing broken planks on the jetty. We will also look into installing a proper water supply so that the members boats can be cleaned properly once back from sea.
Competitions.
We have started the ball rolling for the December competition. As the planning comes together I will send out the info to all of you.
We are busy tendering to host the Junior Nationals next year. The proposal has been drawn up and will be submitted to EP and then sent to SADSAA. We hold thumbs we are awarded the honour of hosting this event. More will follow once the organisers get back to us.
M.P.A.
The deep sea committee will be sending in our objections to the MPA. Should you feel you would like to also voice your objections please contact myself or Jen Nelson. These objections have to be in by 3rd May 2016. We will be putting up a map of the proposed area they are wanting to close in the club. Please pop in and have a look.
News from the club.
All looks to be going well at the club. The Easter competition resulted in a good turnover through the tills. The club is looking to be in a better situation, both financially and the grounds it’s self. We all hope this trend will continue.
The deep sea section meetings are held at the PARSC every first Tuesday evening, starting at 18:00. You are all welcome to attend our meetings and please feel free to contact myself should you want to discuss a matter, both section or club related.
